Single sheets, folded once, making four pages each. The first, bearing a photo of Lewis Bertrand, solicits a write in vote for Bertrand as a candidate for president in the 1960 election, running on the platform of settling with Russia. Bertrand provides a brief synopsis of his belief in conciliatory talks with Russia to avoid a conventional war or protracted Cold War. The second piece outlines the concept and platform of a 'Mankinds Assembly,' outlining goals for peace through the establishment of a permanent peace congress, independent, but concomitant with the United Nations. Peace between Russia and the United States figure heavily into the outline. Online searches yielded no information on Bertrand or the Mankinds Assembly. GOOD condition. Red date stamps at the top of each piece. Vertical fold creases present, with other creasing and wrinkling present. Minor toning to the paper. Rust stains, perhaps from staples, present to the write in vote piece. Good .

Presumed Boston, circa either 1968 or 1972, but most likely 1972, based on the collection from which these came. Two fliers, one announcing, "Register Now. McGovern," and listing places for people to register to vote in the Boston area, giving late September to early October dates. The other declares, "Make President McGovern a Reality" in handwritten letters, announcing a meeting on Wednesday, April 19th at the GS Union. Both in GOOD condition, with general toning, minor soiling and a few small stains. Both sheets rather wrinkled and creased. Good .

An underground newspaper style piece issued to coincide with the 1972 Republican National Convention. The paper focuses on Nixon and the Republican's response (or not) to various issues, including the Vietnam War. It ties the use of police force to repress protests with the US military intervention in Vietnam. Also included is a look at how Republican policies affect the gay and lesbian community, the Miami Women's Coalition, etc. One page features a photo of activist George Jackson, with three quarters of the page seemingly containing an excerpt from his book, with mention of his and Fred Hampton's murders as being politically based. GOOD condition. Paper browned. Minor wrinkling and creasing, with heavy creasing at the lower corners. Small tear at the front page fore edge. Good .

Wraps. 94 pp. A collection of speeches given by Earl Browder upon his nomination as a Communist Party candidate for President of the United States in 1940. Browder cites instances of electoral corruption and fraud, and castigates Roosevelt for adopting Hitler-like policies and strategies in the elections. He also outlines Communist Party platforms and advocates for an expansion of many of Roosevelt's programs, all that would help the average worker and farmer. Earl Browder was an activist and leader in various socialist organizations, as well as the Communist Party USA, jailed several times for some of his activities, and eventually, with the declassification of Soviet documents, revealed to be a recruiting agent at one point for the USSR (Wikipedia). GOOD+ condition. Minor soiling and some scuffing to the covers, a bit heavier to the rear wrap. Uneven darkening. Minor edgewear. Interior clean and solid with light toning to the paper. The author endorses Grover Cleveland for president, and castigates many Massachusetts politicians. Sargent was a Whig politician and lawyer, as well as an author and journalist (see Massachusetts Historical Society website). GOOD condition. Vertical fold crease present. General browning. Either single sheets or stapled packets. 21 items, plus duplicates, relating to the 1972 presidential campaign of George McGovern. This includes statements that relay McGovern's thoughts on the economy, education, foreign aid, arms control, unemployment, senior citizens, voting record on labor, flyers for events, etc. Also included are printings of speeches given by McGovern, one from New Hampshire, and one from Massachusetts. Several items gather press material either for the media or what the media has said about McGovern. George McGovern was a long time US politician, who ran for president in 1968 and 1972. He gained the democratic nomination in 1972 but lost to Nixon. Items range from good to very good condition. Varying amounts of general toning, minor soiling, creasing and otherwhere to the pieces. A few with ink annotations. Good .

Acts include an act for the relief of Daniel Boone (granting rights to land received by him from the Spanish government), an act supplemental to the one ascertaining the titles and claims in the state of Louisiana, an act establishing the mode of laying off districts in Indiana, acts pertaining to the territories of Mississippi and Missouri, etc. In GOOD condition. Heavy chipping to the fore edge of the paper wraps, with some loss. Minor scuffing, chipping and wear to the extremities. Minor soiling and general darkening. The top three and bottom two inches of the spine binding is missing but the binding is still solid and intact. The text is clean and solid, with many pages unopened. Heavy foxing and darkening to many pages throughout, although many pages are relatively unaffected. Many pages unevenly and rather closely cropped at the margins, though not affecting text. Good .

The first issue of this journal written "In support of the principles of Jeffersonian Democracy as enunciated by the author of the Declaration of Independence and maintained by the illustrious leaders of the party, from Jefferson to Wilson." The editor and publisher (and perhaps author), Metcalf, saw this work as a means to counter Republican policies and philosophies, arguing in his preface that most newspapers and journals of the day were owned by Republicans. This issue examines the Republican strategy for the upcoming presidential election, American foreign policy, Henry Cabot Lodge and his ideas, etc. Perhaps the first and only issue of this journal. No records found in the OCLC. In GOOD+ condition. Uneven fading to the covers, mostly along the extremities. Minor scuffing and soiling. Faint diagonal crease to the front cover. Light scuffing along the extremities, with a small chip missing from the upper rear cover. Interior solid, with moderate foxing to the first several pages and an ink corrections to words on pages 42 and 45. Good .
